Southern State joins Choose Ohio First Initiative- Choose Ohio First is an initiative promoted and administered by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to bolster support for the next generation of Ohio science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) scholars and industry leaders.
Southern State co-sponsors donation drive for local Veterans- Each year, the Highland County Veterans Services sponsors a donation drive to provide stockings for local Veterans in assisted living and medical facilities.
Auditions for Թϲ Theatre's "Firebringer, A New Stone Age Musical" will be January 12 and 13- Թϲ Theatre will hold auditions for the spring production of "Firebringer," with music and lyrics by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski, book by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Brian Holden, and arranged by Clark Baxtresser and Pierce Siebers.
Southern State student, Kayla Bradshaw, selected as "Intel Semiconductor Scholarship for Women" recipient- Southern State's Kayla Bradshaw has been selected as a recipient of the Intel Semiconductor Scholarship for Women.
November 2023
Southern State students inducted into PTK Honor Society- The membership of one of higher education's most recognized honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), was enhanced by the induction of several new members at a November 16 ceremony held on Թϲ's Central Campus.
Թϲ Joins Collaboration for Advanced Manufacturing- Թϲ has accepted the invitation to serve as a partner in the Ohio Semiconductor Collaboration Network (OSCN) to be part of a year-long professional development opportunity. Southern State's participation will help to accelerate its advanced manufacturing presence in Ohio.
Study Abroad with Թϲ in 2024- Southern State, in partnership with EF Study Abroad, is offering current students as well as community members the opportunity to study abroad in the British Isles: England, Ireland, and Wales May 15-25, 2024. Reservations are currently being accepted until February 1, 2024.
Թϲ Board of Trustees' Nominating Committee to meet November 16- The Թϲ Board of Trustees' Nominating Committee is scheduled to meet at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, November 16 on Թϲ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 103, prior to their regular Board meeting at 12:00 p.m.

Southern State adds new classes to spring semester schedule- Included with the regular schedule of courses this spring, the College will be offering a set of brand-new classes as well as some "dusted off" classes that are being brought back after years on hiatus.

Sara M. Barrere Memorial Trust benefits many at Թϲ- Թϲ Foundation has announced 54 students as recipients of the Sara M. Barrere Memorial Trust Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.
Thomas Browning Awarded Barrere Memorial Scholarship at Southern State- The Թϲ Foundation has announced Thomas Browning, of Franklin County, as a recipient of the Sara M. Barrere Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.
Southern State's Spring Semester begins January 8, 2024- Southern State offers associate degree programs in the areas of business, computer technology, engineering, education, human and social services, health sciences, and law enforcement, as well as one-year certificate programs in accounting, aviation: general, airframe and powerplant, medical assistant technology, phlebotomy, practical nursing, and real estate.
Southern State's Spring 2024 Online Scholarship Portal Is Open - Apply Today!- Applications are being accepted for Spring 2024 scholarship funding at Թϲ. Current students, as well as new students, can apply.
Թϲ Board of Trustees to meet October 25- The Թϲ Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25 on Թϲ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 346, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The board will enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing the purchase or sale of property.
Թϲ to hold orientation for free GED preparation classes- The Adult Opportunity Center (AOC) at Թϲ is offering fall orientations for new program enrollees in basic academic skills, GED preparation, and college readiness. These sessions will be held in November at various locations, which include Batavia, Georgetown, Greenfield, Hillsboro, Mount Orab, Washington C.H., West Union, and Wilmington.

Թϲ Theatre presents 'The Diviners'- Թϲ Theatre presents "The Diviners," by Jim Leonard, Jr., playing November 3-5 in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Թϲ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 3:30 p.m.

Southern State Joins College Completion Accelerator to Boost Student Outcomes and Completion Rates- Թϲ has joined the Complete College Accelerator, an ambitious nationwide initiative to improve student success and close gaps in college access and completion.
Southern State's Peace Officer Training Academy earns 100% pass rate- The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) at Թϲ is pleased to announce that all cadets have passed the State Certified Exam, granting the program a 100% pass rate on the exam portion and a 100% pass rate on the physical fitness assessments.
Southern State's Certiport Pearson VUE Test Centers offer Industry-Standard Certifications and more for students, community members- Թϲ understands that today's employers are looking for employees who are up-to-date with current technologies and industry-standard certifications. To help fulfill this need, the college currently operates two Certiport® Pearson VUE authorized Test Centers, one at the Central Campus in Hillsboro and one at the Brown County Campus in Mt. Orab.

Southern State's Fall Semester Brings Enrollment Increase- Թϲ's Fall Semester is well underway and the campuses are buzzing with activity as students, new and returning, fill the classrooms.
August 2023
Թϲ announces honors lists for the summer semester- Թϲ has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for the Summer Semester 2022/23. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0 grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
Southern State's Police Academy Commander Presents at National Conference- Doug Daniels, Commander of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Թϲ as well as a Special Deputy with the Highland County Sheriff's Office, recently presented at the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) Annual Conference in Grand Rapids Michigan.
Southern State Wraps up Patriot Palooza Campaign- Southern State recently joined forces with many local businesses across Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland Counties to host a month-long outreach initiative called Patriot Palooza. The event brought awareness to the many programs and opportunities offered by the College as well as the start of Fall Semester, which begins on August 21.
Թϲ Awards Katie Bailey Memorial Scholarship to Katelynn Crichton- Թϲ Foundation has announced Katelynn Crichton as the recipient of the Katie Bailey Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year.
Թϲ Board of Trustees to meet August 9- The Թϲ Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9 on Թϲ's Hillsboro Campus, Room 347, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro for their regular Board meeting.
Թϲ Awards NCB Minority Excellence Scholarship to Jessilyn Gilman, Cae'don Brennan, and Anthony Houck- National Cooperative Bank (NCB) and the Թϲ Foundation have announced Jessilyn Gilman, Cae'don Brennan, and Anthony Houck as recipients of the NCB Minority Excellence Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Auditions for Թϲ Theatre's "The Diviners" will be August 25 and 26- Թϲ Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of "The Diviners," by Jim Leonard, Jr. Open to community members and students, auditions will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Թϲ's Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.
Southern State awards Elks Scholarship to Elena Pickering-Polstra- The Hillsboro Elks Lodge and the Թϲ Foundation have announced Elena Pickering-Polstra as the 2023 recipient of the Hillsboro Elks Scholarship.
Southern State announces newest graduate from Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success- Meg Storrs, Administrative Assistant for Southern State's Nursing Department, has graduated as a fellow of the newest class of the Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success.
Թϲ Awards Dylan Phillip Wilson and Nathan Paeltz Memorial Scholarship to Drew Dotson and Audree Howell- The Թϲ Foundation has announced Drew Dotson and Audree Howell as the recipients of the Dylan Phillip Wilson and Nathan Paeltz Memorial Scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.
There is still time to register - Թϲ Fall Semester begins August 21- Թϲ's fall semester begins August 21 - registration is currently underway.
Southern State's campus leaders assume additional roles to start the 2023-24 academic year- Effective July 1, a shift in staffing roles will take place to better fulfill Southern State's mission and vision as well as align with the institution's strategic goals for the academic year 2023-24 and beyond.
Southern State's aviation program offers big opportunities with high career placement and growing salaries- Թϲ, in partnership with Great Oaks Career Campuses, offers an associate degree in Engineering: Aviation Maintenance as well as two certificate programs.
Southern State launches Patriot Palooza this Summer- Joining forces with many local businesses, Թϲ has planned Patriot Palooza this summer at select locations, to bring awareness to the many programs and opportunities offered by the College.

Southern State is one of 10 colleges to join QuantNet Ohio- Թϲ is pleased to announce its new partnership with QuantNet Ohio, Statewide Network for Teaching Quantitative Reasoning Effectively. They join 9 other Ohio colleges and universities that are part of this premier group.
Southern State's Adult Opportunity Center hosts recognition celebration for the Aspire and Graduation Alliance Programs- Area residents who passed the General Education Development (GED) test or completed the Adult High School Workforce Diploma Program were honored recently at the 34th annual Adult Opportunity Center's Recognition celebration at Թϲ's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Southern State Launches Summer Enrichment Program- Թϲ is excited to announce its Summer Enrichment Program for 2023. Designed to foster creativity, learning, and personal growth, these courses are tailored to empower students of all ages during summer break.
Թϲ Board of Trustees to meet May 25- The Թϲ Board of Trustees' Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25 on Թϲ's Hillsboro Campus.
Թϲ Basic Peace Officers complete training- The cadets of Թϲ's Basic Peace Officer Training Academy were recognized at a special ceremony held on May 16 at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Թϲ announces honors lists for spring semester- Թϲ has released its President's List and Dean's List for academic excellence for Spring Semester 2023. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must maintain a 4.0-grade point average while carrying a specific number of academic credit hours. Those who achieve the Dean's List are full-time students who have earned at least a 3.5-grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
Southern State launches online French and Spanish courses- Թϲ is excited to announce the launch of its new online French and Spanish language courses, designed for individuals seeking to learn a new language from the comfort and convenience of their own homes. These courses begin on August 21 - the start of the Fall Semester.
Թϲ awarded Collegiate Purple Star Award- The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) Chancellor Randy Gardner has named the latest group of Ohio colleges and universities designated as Collegiate Purple Star campuses for their efforts to support students with military backgrounds. Southern State is part of that group.
Southern State's ADN program celebrates graduation- Forty-two graduates of Թϲ's Associate Degree Nursing Program were recognized during a May 4 pinning ceremony at the college's Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Southern State Celebrates 47th Commencement Ceremony- Թϲ recognized the graduating class of 2023 during its 47th annual commencement ceremony held Friday, May 5 in the College's Patriot Center.
Թϲ honors three employees who will receive SOCHE Excellence Awards- The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) has recognized three Թϲ individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship. Those honored with the 2022-23 SOCHE Excellence Awards include Dr. Joshua Montgomery, Dr. Julianne Krebs, and Susan Morris.
New Police Academy begins in August at Southern State. Sign up TODAY!- A new police academy will begin on August 21 at Թϲ and registration is underway. The deadline for submitting applications is July 15.

Թϲ announces 2023 commencement speaker- Թϲ will hold its 47th commencement ceremony on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Patriot Center on the Central Campus in Hillsboro.
- Emily Bloom Jackson, an established alumni member of Թϲ, will serve as this year's commencement speaker.
Online Business Degrees are now offered at Southern State- Getting an Associate of Applied Business degree online at Թϲ can be a great option for students who want to pursue higher education while balancing other commitments like work or family responsibilities.
Advance your Future with the Foster Short-Term Certificate Program at Թϲ- Do you need help paying for college or specific training? Have you ever been in foster or kinship care? Southern State offers a Foster Short-Term Certificate Program that provides grant funding to assist with education and training expenses associated with college.
Ohio Code Scholar Program Hosts Grant Imahara Coding Challenge at Թϲ- Թϲ's Ohio Code Scholar program is excited to host the Grant Imahara Coding Challenge event on May 5th, 2023, at the Central Campus in Hillsboro. The Ohio Code Scholar program includes several high schools throughout the region, with a mission to bring more coding and IT programs to high schools and grow options in those schools through projects, curriculum, and instructor credentialing.
Southern State to Host Engineering Program Open House- Թϲ's Engineering Department will hold an open house on Thursday, April 20th from 4-8 p.m. at the Central Campus in Hillsboro.
Highland District Hospital Director of Nursing visits Southern State- Թϲ recently welcomed Cathy Faulconer, Director of Nursing at Highland District Hospital, to the Central Campus where she met with Associate Degree Nursing students who will be graduating in May.

One of the many ways they accomplish this is through community relationships with area businesses and organizations.

Two Թϲ Students Named Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars- Թϲ is pleased to announce that two current Թϲ students have been named Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars. As part of the 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team, Robert (Alex) Bradshaw, of Martinsville in Clinton County, has been named a Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. Peyton Magee, of Hillsboro in Highland County, has been named a Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Southern State's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society to attend Annual convention in Columbus - Թϲ Retired President to be honored- For more than 100 years, the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has helped millions of high-achieving college students reach their full potential by providing opportunities to develop leadership skills, earn scholarships and explore career paths.
Թϲ Board of Trustees to meet February 27- The Թϲ Board of Trustees' Long-Term Planning/Facilities Committee is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 27 on Թϲ's Hillsboro Campus.
Earn Your Associate Degree in Education through Southern State's Online Pathway- Թϲ now offers a two-year associate degree in education and ALL classes can be taken online. Students enrolling in the program can attend classes from the comfort and convenience of their own homes, all while saving precious dollars on college tuition costs.
Southern State hosts Winter Cattle Producers Meeting- Nearly 60 people attended the Winter Cattle Producers meeting held on Feb. 9 at Southern State's Brown Co. Campus in Mt. Orab.
Թϲ scholarship money is available NOW to students majoring in healthcare - APPLY TODAY- Nursing and allied health students at Թϲ could reap the benefits from the myriad scholarship opportunities offered through the Թϲ Foundation, a tax-exempt organization founded in 1996.

Hillsboro students visit Southern State to learn about Engineering Program- Nearly 100 students from Hillsboro City Schools visited Southern State's Central Campus on January 26 to tour the engineering labs and classroom space, meet the professors, and more.
Fall Semester scholarship application opens on February 1 at Southern State- Students enrolled, or planning to enroll, at Թϲ for Fall Semester, which begins in August, can benefit from various financial resources to help offset the cost of a college education.
